There's only one teensy little suggestion I have.

And by "teensy", I mean it's really a complicated idea that will only improve the system slightly, even in theory :-).

I'll check more into some of these ideas.

Would it make sense to have a separate FHSS page on open circuits?

Yes, a [[FHSS]] page here on Open Circuits sounds great.

The [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frequency-hopping_spread_spectrum Wikipedia:FHSS] article is educational, but my impression is that Wikipedia discourages the sort of "howto information" and "original research" that we want to talk about.

Although [http://interwiki.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/picawiki.pl/NgARN NgARN : Next Generation Amateur Radio Network] looks like it is even more supportive of all kinds of "original research" and "howto information", I'm not sure it's really geared to the kind of simple, low-cost, less-than-a-kilometer embedded systems we're talking about.

Tell me if you find any other wiki that discuss radio protocols.

(Or even wired protocols, for that matter).

I hope we'll be able to move pages like [[FHSS]] to some other wiki when that is appropriate, and perhaps that wiki will have some pages that will be more appropriate to move to Open Circuits.

I actually contributed some to the wikipedia page on FHSS, but I agree it would be nice to have a place to discuss the Nuts And Bolts of something like that which despite trying I was unable to find much in that way on that topic.  I asked in the Sparkfun forum once about some implementation questions and I was simply told "Why are you doing that when you can buy an XBee?"

I have a few other projects pending but I'll start the topic as soon as I get some free cycles.
